DOD Signals 'Off-The-Shelf' Approach To Major Weapons Buys

Law360, Washington (October 3, 2013, 2:20 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Department of Defense's recent waiver of a requirement for contractors to build new prototypes for a presidential helicopter acquisition program highlights the government's newly flexible approach to acquisition rules in an age of fiscal tightening, and contractors may in some cases be able to use "off-the-shelf" materials in lieu of prototypes for future procurement programs, experts say.
