BP Moves For Deepwater Deal Shutdown After Freeh Report

Law360, New York (September 23, 2013, 5:20 PM EDT) -- BP PLC took another stab on Monday at freezing settlement payouts under the Deepwater Horizon economic damages program, saying a court-ordered report's findings of potentially criminal misconduct within the claims handling process justify a shutdown.

BP said that former FBI director Louis J. Freeh confirmed its longstanding suspicions of corruption within the settlement program in a Sept. 6 special master's report that purportedly laid bare widespread unethical practices and an indifference to fraudulent payments among the program's senior staffers.
