Google Books Judge Offers Support For Fair Use Argument

Law360, New York (September 23, 2013, 7:43 PM EDT) -- A New York federal judge deciding whether Google Inc.’s project to digitize millions of books is legal expressed support for the search giant Monday, suggesting that the positives of a massive searchable library might outweigh potential harms to authors.

Judge Denny Chin said his own law clerk had used the search tool, called Google Books, “all the time” while working on legal projects, and highlighted novel uses like widespread data mining that were previously impossible.
