Calif. Group Can't Intervene In Fla. $300M Force-Placed Deal

Law360, Miami (October 1, 2013, 8:54 PM EDT) -- A Florida federal judge overseeing a $300 million settlement between a class of homeowners and JPMorgan Chase Bank NA and Assurant Inc. over their force-placed insurance business refused Tuesday to allow plaintiffs in a rival California case to intervene in the case.

U.S. District Judge Federico Moreno denied a motion to intervene filed by plaintiffs in a first-filed California case who argued that the deal will unfairly extinguish their case in return for an illusory settlement structured to ensure minimum claimant participation.
