NYC Settles Race Bias Class Action For $21M

Law360, New York (February 26, 2008, 12:00 AM EST) -- After a tumultuous eight-year battle, the City of New York on Tuesday said that it had agreed to pay more than $21 million to settle a race-discrimination class action against the Department of Parks and Recreation.

The settlement, which still needs the approval of a federal judge in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, includes $12 million in back pay and compensatory damages to about 3,500 former and current workers.
