Suit Targets Maibec Wooden Shingles As Defective

Law360, New York (November 1, 2013, 2:05 PM EDT) -- Wooden shingle maker Maibec Inc. was hit Tuesday with a proposed class action lawsuit alleging that, contrary to its marketing claims, its shingles are plagued by design flaws that result in decay, including warping, peeling, cracking, buckling and curling.

Plaintiff Melissa McCaffrey alleged that Maibec shingles are generally considered to be high quality and that the company claims the wood is treated for endurance. She said the company purports to guarantee the shingles for 50 years but that they are actually prone to premature breakdown....
