FCC Chairwoman Proposes End To Sports TV 'Blackout' Rule

Law360, Washington (November 1, 2013, 9:49 PM EDT) -- The Federal Communications Commission will soon consider whether to eliminate its rules mandating “blackouts” for cable and satellite television providers on certain sporting events, acting FCC Chairwoman Mignon Clyburn said Friday.

According to Clyburn, she had circulated a notice of proposed rulemaking to the commission’s members, proposing to eliminate the FCC’s sports blackout rules, citing changes in the sporting event landscape since the rules were first put in place in 1975.
