NYPD Detective Pleads Guilty To Hacking Officers' Emails

Law360, Los Angeles (November 8, 2013, 10:12 PM EST) -- A New York City Police Department detective has pled guilty to paying computer hackers more than $4,000 to obtain log-in information for 43 email accounts that belong to NYPD officers and others, a U.S. attorney's office announced Friday.

Edwin Vargas, 42, also admitted to illegally accessing a federal law-enforcement database in order to get information about other NYPD officers, the U.S. attorney's office said.
