Renters of Auctioned Storage Units Lose Class Bid

Law360, Los Angeles (November 18, 2013, 8:52 PM EST) -- A California federal judge on Monday refused to grant certification to a putative class of renters whose storage units were foreclosed upon and auctioned off, finding that each renter’s contract and delinquency was individualized.

U.S. District Judge William Alsup ruled that the issue of when, why and how each renter abandoned their unit owned by Extra Space Storage Inc. could not be resolved on a classwide basis, siding with the storage company.
