Monster Ordered To Talk Settlement In Beastie Boys IP Row

Law360, New York (November 25, 2013, 6:55 PM EST) -- A federal judge on Monday ordered Monster Energy Co. and the Beastie Boys to enter settlement talks in a copyright suit over the beverage company's use of Beastie Boys' songs in a promotional video, saying he thinks the suit should not go to trial.

A trial in the case would be costly, U.S. District Judge Paul Engelmayer said at a conference in Manhattan federal court.

"My own view is that this is a case that ought to settle," he said.
