Countrywide Cries Foul On U.S. Trustee Investigation

Law360, New York (March 14, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Countrywide Financial Corp. has lashed out against a government official, making a bid to stop the U.S. Trustee for the Western District of Pennsylvania from investigating the lender's role in the bankruptcies of some of its customers.

In court documents filed earlier this month in Pennsylvania, Countrywide slammed an investigation into allegations that the company engaged in abusive business practices, and it claimed that the U.S. trustee's investigation was not permitted by law.
