Calif. Justices Send Bullet Train Case To Appeals Court

Law360, San Diego (January 29, 2014, 10:34 PM EST) -- The California Supreme Court on Wednesday declined to consider a petition by Gov. Jerry Brown’s administration challenging two rulings that came down against the state’s planned $68.4 billion high-speed rail project, transferring the matter to a lower state appellate court for expedited review.

The state’s top court ordered Brown’s petition for a writ of mandate be heard by California’s Third District Court of Appeal. Critics of the rail plan must file an expedited preliminary opposition by Feb. 3, while Brown must submit an expedited reply by...
