Former Top NY Dem Hit With New Charge Over City Biz Stake

Law360, New York (February 3, 2014, 4:08 PM EST) -- Prosecutors on Monday unveiled an updated indictment against Brooklyn Democratic Sen. John L. Sampson, a lawyer and former top party leader in Albany, N.Y., adding charges that he lied about a stake in a city business in tax arrears to allegations that he embezzled foreclosure sale proceeds.

Sampson disguised an interest worth "hundreds of thousands of dollars" to a liquor store that, when purchased from a previous owner, was in arrears on sales tax obligations, Brooklyn federal prosecutors claim in the new charging document.
