Obama Raises Minimum Wage For Gov't Contract Workers

Law360, New York (February 12, 2014, 3:00 PM EST) -- President Barack Obama on Wednesday signed an executive order lifting the minimum wage for federal contractors to $10.10 per hour starting Jan. 1, 2015, and called on Congress to pass the Harkin-Miller bill, which would raise the federal minimum wage, by the end of the year.

The executive order covers all workers performing services or construction under new federal contracts and replacements for expiring contracts. Increasing the minimum wage will lower turnover and absenteeism, increase morale and productivity and improve the quality of services provided to...
