Using Apps While Driving Is OK, Calif. Panel Says

Law360, Los Angeles (February 27, 2014, 9:51 PM EST) -- Drivers in California may use applications such as mapping functions on their mobile phones while driving, a state appeals court ruled on Thursday, reversing an earlier decision in a man’s two-year battle against a $165 traffic ticket.

A three-judge panel in the Fifth Appellate District reversed an earlier series of decisions against Steven Spriggs, a driver who was given a ticket for looking at his phone’s map app to find an alternate route around traffic on a highway in January 2012, according to the decision....
