Oil Spill Victims Urge Court To Block BP Access To Claims

Law360, New York (March 20, 2014, 2:13 PM EDT) -- Plaintiffs in sprawling multidistrict litigation over the Deepwater Horizon oil spill urged a Louisiana federal court Tuesday to block BP PLC from reviewing pending claims in its $9.2 billion settlement with victims of the spill, arguing that BP wants to use the data to back out of paying certain claimants.

BP had asked the court for permission to view detailed claims information before a court-appointed claims processor reviewed it, but two groups of plaintiffs argued in briefs filed Monday and Tuesday that the settlement clearly bars...
