New Fines Signal Crackdown On Illegal Workers

Law360, New York (April 3, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The U.S. Department of Justice's recent increase in fines against employers who hire undocumented workers will not have an enormous impact on businesses, but it does indicate that the federal government is taking steps to tighten its enforcement of illegal immigration, attorneys say.

The DOJ, along with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, raised the possible penalties for employers by about 25% on March 27. They, however, remain relatively small compared to fines for other infractions, according to attorneys.
