Casino Measure Shouldn't Go On Ballot, Mass. Mayor Says

Law360, New York (March 25, 2014, 8:11 PM EDT) -- The mayor of Springfield, Mass., filed a brief on Friday with the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court arguing to uphold the state attorney general’s ruling not to certify a ballot initiative petition to repeal parts of the state’s casino gambling law, saying the petition violates the rights of local governments.

A group of anti-casino activists filed the case after the Massachusetts attorney general refused to certify a ballot initiative petition ruling that would result in an unconstitutional taking from the casino companies.
