Dying Asbestos Plaintiffs Call For Mediation

Law360, New York (April 17, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Lawyers representing hundreds of plaintiffs in the massive asbestos products liability action have asked a court to order defendants into mediation, claiming their clients are dying while their cases wait to be heard in the plodding multidistrict litigation.

The attorneys, from Chicago, Ill.-based firm Cascino Vaughan, filed motions to the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania on Wednesday seeking the appointment of “experienced asbestos mediators” to assist in settlement negotiations with two defendants, Rapid American Corp. and Rockbestos-Surprenant Cable Corp.
