Christian Bale Film Didn't Defame Tribe Members, Judge Says

Law360, New York (May 15, 2014, 5:58 PM EDT) -- A New Jersey federal judge on Wednesday tossed a defamation suit brought by members of a Native American ethnic group accusing Relativity Media LLC and other producers of the film "Out of the Furnace," which starred Christian Bale, of portraying them in a negative light.  

Judge William H. Walls tossed claims brought by 17 members of the Ramapough Lunaape Nation that the film defamed them, saying the movie never made any factual statements specifically about any individual plaintiff and did not attempt portray any of the plaintiffs as characters.
