Former Def Jam Intern Claims UMG Stiffs Interns On Wages

Law360, New York (June 20, 2014, 2:07 PM EDT) -- A former unpaid intern for Def Jam Recordings and Motown Records hit the labels’ parent company, Universal Music Group Inc., with a putative collective action in New York federal court on Wednesday, accusing the music giant of illegally failing to pay its interns minimum wage.

William E. Stokely III claims that since at least June 2008, UMG has violated the the Fair Labor Standards Act and New York State Labor Law by improperly classifying certain employees as interns, and neglecting to pay them minimum wage and overtime....
