Sierra Club To Sue Coal Plants Over Mercury Rules

Law360, New York (May 7, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The Sierra Club has threatened to sue energy companies in six states over plans to build coal-fired power plants that the group claims don't include adequate controls for mercury pollution and other hazardous emissions.

The environmental group sent formal intent to sue letters Tuesday to the owners of eight plants proposed for Arizona, Georgia, Kentucky, North Carolina, Texas and Wyoming. The club already has sent letters to Peabody Energy, Entergy and Louisiana Generating LLC and has its eye on a dozen more projects, it said....
