Semiconductor Cos. Face ITC Probe Over Patent

Law360 (May 16, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The U.S. International Trade Commission has instituted an investigation into 18 semiconductor companies that allegedly infringe a method patent for the metallization of tungsten in computer chips.

The ITC announced on Thursday that it had voted to investigate LSI Corp. and Agere Systems Inc.'s complaint, which seeks an exclusion order and a cease-and-desist order to prevent the semiconductor companies from importing and selling allegedly infringing products.

The defendants include Taiwan's United Microelectronics Corp.; San Jose, Calif.-based Cypress Semiconductor Corp.; Austin, Texas-based Freescale Semiconductor Inc.; Switzerland's STMicroelectronics...
