Jury Says Pneumo Abex Must Pay $37M To Asbestos Victim

By Kira Lerner (August 29, 2014, 4:48 PM EDT) -- A jury in Tampa, Florida, has found Pneumo Abex LLC on the hook for almost $37 million in a suit alleging a former auto mechanic developed terminal mesothelioma from his exposure to asbestos in brake linings manufactured by the company.

Gary Hampton, who worked as a mechanic for seven years in the 1970s, claimed he was diagnosed with mesothelioma in 2013 stemming from his exposure to brake linings made by Pneumo Abex and Ford Motor Co. According to attorneys, the jury on Wednesday found Pneumo Abex 70 percent liable after a two-and-a-half week trial.
