Major U.S. Film, TV Studios Sue Adelphia Over Royalty Payments

Law360 (December 12, 2003, 12:00 AM EST) -- Members of the Motion Picture Association of America filed lawsuits against bankrupt cable company Adelphia Communications Corporation over unpaid royalties for television programming such as films and Major League Baseball coverage.

The suits allege that Adelphia's cable systems retransmitted series and movies belonging to MPAA member companies but failed to pay the royalties associated with the retransmissions as required by the Copyright Act.

The lawsuit against Adelphia and its cable system subsidiaries was filed in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York....
