Military Families Seek Final OK For $39M Prudential Settlement

Law360, New York (November 7, 2014, 5:35 PM EST) -- Military service members, veterans and their families asked a Massachusetts federal judge on Friday to grant final approval to a $39.2 million settlement resolving a consolidated class action alleging Prudential Insurance Co. of America failed to pay death benefits under a group life insurance program.

The plaintiffs asked U.S. District Judge Michael A. Ponsor to sign off on the agreement, after having granted preliminary approval of it in August, arguing the settlement has been overwhelmingly endorsed by the majority of the 67,000 members of the proposed settlement class, and that objections from .016 percent of class members aren't sufficient to scuttle the deal....
