Patent Pools Grow More Popular In Tech Sector

Law360, New York (June 20, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- As more consumer devices become based on international technology standards, companies will continue to see incentives to forming patent pools with their competitors, but companies need to organize these pools carefully to avoid raising antitrust red flags.

Last month, Intel Corp., Alcatel-Lucent and four other technology firms joined forces to collectively license WiMAX wireless patents. And patent lawyers expect more patent-holding alliances to emerge in the telecommunications, electronics and software industries.
