Soho, Tribeca Grand Deprived Employees Of Tips, Suit Says
By Kaitlyn Kiernan (February 2, 2015, 1:41 PM EST) -- The Soho Grand and the Tribeca Grand have been hit with a putative class action alleging the New York hotels shortchanged waiters, busboys, bartenders and other employees out of tips by assessing a "service charge" without disclosing the charge wasn't a gratuity for staff.
Mamun Hussain, a former Soho Grand and Tribeca Grand employee, on Thursday alleged that the hotels charged customers with a mandatory 20 percent to 24 percent service charge for catered functions and parties, but didn't disclaim that the charge wasn't a gratuity charge, leading customers to believe they had paid a gratuity when they hadn't.
