FBI Says Vast Majority Of Hacks Due To Inadequate Security

By Allison Grande (February 3, 2015, 7:44 PM EST) -- An FBI special agent said Tuesday that more than 90 percent of the private sector data breaches that the agency is called in to investigate can be pinned on businesses' failure to put security precautions in place, highlighting the need for companies to think carefully about how they are protecting consumers' data.

During a panel discussion at the Online Trust Alliance's Data Privacy and Protection Town Hall in New York, FBI Special Agent George Schultzel revealed that companies had "little to no security whatsoever" in 90 to 95 percent of the breaches that the agency handles.
