Italian Broadcaster Sues YouTube For €500M

Law360, New York (July 30, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Italian broadcasting company Mediaset SpA became the latest media company to sue Google Inc.'s YouTube for copyright infringement on Wednesday when it filed a lawsuit in a Rome court seeking €500 million ($779 million) in damages.

Mediaset, which owns several television networks in Italy and one in Spain, said in a statement that it filed the suit after it analyzed YouTube's content in June and found 4,643 clips that allegedly infringed its copyrighted programming.
