Agents Stripped Of Class Status In Suit Vs. Insurer

Law360 (July 30, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- More than eight months after granting class certification to more than 2,400 insurance agents in a lawsuit against Bankers Life & Casualty Co., a federal judge has changed her mind, decertifying the group in an order Monday.

Judge Suzanne B. Conlon, of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, stripped the California-based agents of class certification after denying their bid for summary judgment that they were misclassified as independent contractors.
