Uber Swaps Morgan Lewis For Gibson Dunn In Drivers' Suit

Law360, Los Angeles (April 14, 2015, 4:00 PM EDT) -- Lawyers at Gibson Dunn are taking over Uber Technologies Inc.'s defense against a proposed class action from the ride-hailing service's drivers who claim they were improperly labeled as independent contractors and cheated out of a 20 percent gratuity, Uber said Monday in California federal court.

A team of Gibson Dunn lawyers filed the substitution of counsel notice, saying they were replacing Uber's previous counsel at Morgan Lewis & Bockius LLP. The notice comes little more than a month after U.S. District Judge Edward Chen rejected Uber's bid to avoid a trial, refusing to rule that the drivers weren't employees.
