NY Gov. Seeks $15 Statewide Minimum Wage

By Kurt Orzeck (September 10, 2015, 8:54 PM EDT) -- New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Thursday said he wants to raise the state's minimum wage to $15 per hour, the highest in the nation, while New York's acting state labor commissioner signed an order designating that rate for fast food workers.

Under Acting State Labor Commissioner Mario J. Musolino's order, phased increases in minimum wage will reach $15 per hour by Dec. 31, 2018, in New York City, and Dec. 31, 2021, for the rest of the state. A state Department of Labor wage board recommended the level in July.
