Law360, New York ( October 29, 2015, 12:56 PM EDT) -- In April, Jersey City passed an ordinance that required those renting rooms via short-term rental companies such as Airbnb Inc. and VRBO.com to pay the 6 percent tax historically applicable to traditional hotel rooms. Councilwoman Candice Osborne, the ordinance's sponsor, said "[t]he reality is that companies like Airbnb create hotel rooms in cities like Jersey City and their guests should be paying the local hotel tax," and "[c]losing this loophole will benefit Jersey City taxpayers."...
