Discovery Blasts $11M Damages Bid At TV Deal Trial

By Jimmy Hoover (November 24, 2015, 4:31 PM EST) -- Discovery called a religious-television distributor's request for $11 million in damages from an abandoned Internet broadcast deal "entirely overblown" Tuesday, telling a Maryland federal judge the company was bleeding money long before the deal went south.

During closing arguments in a two-week bench trial, Discovery Communications LLC said that during the two years it had licensed its linear channels, including Animal Planet, to the Christian-oriented, subscriber-based services of Sky Angel US LLC, it had only received $432,000 in payments, a far cry from the $11 million Sky has now asked the court for following Discovery's decision to cut the deal short. ...
