Apple Scores Cost Award In $548M Samsung Patent Row
By Michael Macagnone (December 10, 2015, 8:49 PM EST) -- Apple Inc. wrung more than $1 million in litigation costs Wednesday from Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd., adding to a $548 million patent infringement awarded in California federal court after the judge agreed that an earlier appellate decision preserved the cost award.
The $1.8 million in costs for services like deposition transcripts survived the appeal of the verdict that found Samsung's smartphones and tablets infringed Apple's design and other patents, U.S. District Judge Lucy H. Koh said Wednesday. Although the Federal Circuit tossed the trade dress claims from the case, the appeals court never overturned the cost award, she said.
