Merck Wins New Jersey Vioxx Case

Law360, New York (July 13, 2006, 12:00 AM EDT) -- In a major victory for Merck & Co. that could save the company millions in future litigation, a New Jersey jury ruled in favor of the pharmaceutical company in the seventh Vioxx case to go to trial.

The jury deliberated for nearly 10 hours over the course of two days over whether Vioxx was a substantial factor in Elaine Doherty’s heart attack, and whether or not the company properly warned her of the risks of taking the drug.
