FCC Set-Top Proposal Endangers Copyright, Groups Say

By Margaret Harding McGill (February 12, 2016, 8:26 PM EST) -- A group of pay-TV proponents warned Federal Communications Commission Chairman Tom Wheeler that his set-top box proposal poses serious copyright concerns, according to a filing on Thursday that described the meeting.

Representatives of the Future of TV Coalition, a group of more than 60 programmers, content creators, civic groups and television providers that oppose Wheeler's proposal met with the chairman and his staff to discuss their problems with the proposal. Chief among them, they say, is that it will undermine the economic framework of agreements that cable and satellite companies reach with content providers.
