IHOP, Applebee's Owner Hit With Wage, Race Bias Suit
Law360, New York (February 23, 2016, 6:12 PM EST) -- The owner and operator of IHOP and Applebee’s restaurants violates California labor law by failing to pay overtime wages, misclassifying employees as overtime-exempt and permitting a racially charged environment, a former employee has alleged in a representative action.
Former DineEquity Inc. paralegal Jewel Garner claims in her suit filed Thursday in California state court that the company allegedly misclassified her as an exempt employee to avoid paying her overtime compensation and engaged in racial discrimination by pitting black employees against each other and holding them to different standards from other workers.
