Allied-Republic Union Would Harm Competition: AAI

Law360 (November 17, 2008, 12:00 AM EST) -- A proposed $6 billion merger between Allied Waste Industries Inc. and Republic Services Inc. that would create the second-largest U.S. trash-hauling company could potentially harm competition and consumers, the American Antitrust Institute said Monday.

The think tank issued its criticism of the marriage — which was approved Friday by shareholders of the two waste giants — in the wake of a recent report analyzing the deal's effects on competition in the national landfill market.
