Paper To Pay $22M To Settle Carrier Class Action

Law360, New York (November 25, 2008, 12:00 AM EST) -- The Orange County Register has agreed to pay up to $22 million to settle a long-running class action lawsuit alleging the California newspaper misclassified its paper carriers as independent contractors rather than employees.

The newspaper, which is part of Freedom Communications Inc., and an attorney for about 5,000 current and former carriers reached the settlement Monday, about two months into a trial in the Orange County Superior Court.
