9th Circ. Denies Rehearing In 'Hurt Locker' Ruling

Law360, New York (April 22, 2016, 7:39 PM EDT) -- A Ninth Circuit panel on Friday refused to rehear an appeal in a publicity rights suit by a U.S. Army sergeant who said that the makers of “The Hurt Locker” misappropriated his life story, about two months after it ruled that the relief he seeks would violate the First Amendment.

The three-judge panel unanimously denied Master Sgt. Jeffrey Sarver’s petition for panel rehearing or rehearing en banc, according to a Friday order. It upheld a lower court ruling in favor of the filmmakers on Feb. 17....
