Google, NCTA Urge Obama To Open Auto Wireless Spectrum

Law360, Washington (April 28, 2016, 4:52 PM EDT) -- Google, the National Cable and Telecommunications Association and several other groups urged President Barack Obama Thursday to open up spectrum currently reserved for auto safety initiatives for Wi-Fi uses, saying the 5.9 GHz band would be a perfect way to address the “dangerously congested” wireless space.

The group, which also included Dell, Qualcomm and Public Knowledge, stressed that prominent technology firms have warned the core 2.4 GHz unlicensed band “has become so overtaxed that it ‘is not considered suitable for use for any business and/or mission critical enterprise applications.’”
