Court Trims Damages In $3.75M Bic Lighter Suit

Law360 (December 9, 2008, 12:00 AM EST) -- A Texas appellate court has trimmed $750,000 from the $3.75 million awarded to a woman who said a manufacturing defect in a cigarette lighter made by Bic Pen Corp. allowed her son to set fire to her daughter's dress, causing severe injuries.

In a decision Thursday, the Court of Appeals for the 13th District of Texas threw out exemplary damages that had been awarded to Janace M. Carter.
