In Rare Move, Judge Orders Zimmer Plaintiffs To Prove Cases

By Diana Novak Jones (June 1, 2016, 8:08 PM EDT) -- Fed up with the difficulty of finding cases for two upcoming bellwether trials in the Zimmer Inc. multidistrict litigation, an Illinois federal judge said Wednesday she will enter a rare "Lone Pine" order requiring each plaintiff to lay out his case against the medical device manufacturer.

In a brief order, U.S. District Judge Rebecca Pallmeyer told attorneys for both sides to begin negotiating the terms of the order immediately as she doesn't plan to change the trial dates for two upcoming bellwethers in litigation over loosening of Zimmer's NexGen knee implants.
