Horizon To Pay Chiropractors $33M In ERISA Settlement
By Dani Kass (June 21, 2016, 2:05 PM EDT) -- A New Jersey federal judge on Monday preliminarily signed off on a $33 million class action settlement between Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey and chiropractors to end claims that the insurer improperly denied benefit claims for chiropractic treatments in violation of the Employee Retirement Income Security Act.
U.S. District Judge William J. Martini filed the preliminary order and set a final approval hearing for Sept. 8, allowing time for objections and opt-outs. The settlement, which includes attorneys' fees and expenses, applies to those denied claims due to illegal bundling practices between Dec. 16, 2005, and April 15, 2010....
