Internet Giants Face Lawsuit Over New IM Patent

By Jesse Greenspan (December 31, 2008, 12:00 AM EST) -- Patent-holding company Aloft Media LLC is not wasting any time taking action against Yahoo Inc., Google Inc. and AOL LLC, filing an infringement suit against the three Internet behemoths the same day that its new patent related to online instant messaging was issued.

In a complaint brought Tuesday in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas, Aloft accused the companies of infringing the patent by selling computer software products such as Yahoo Messenger, Google Talk and AOL Instant Messenger.

The patent-in-suit, U.S. Patent Number 7,472,351, is titled, "Mobile e-mail manager interface with integrated instant messaging and phone call...
