Apple Hit With $22M Verdict In Acacia Patent Trial In EDTX

Law360, New York (September 15, 2016, 3:58 PM EDT) -- An Eastern District of Texas jury found Wednesday that Apple Inc.'s iPhones and iPads infringe a patent on wireless communication technology owned by a subsidiary of major patent licensing firm Acacia Research Corp., and ordered Apple to pay $22.1 million in damages.

The jury found that Apple’s infringement was willful, meaning that the judge could ultimately decide to award plaintiff Cellular Communications Equipment LLC three times the damages determined by the jury.
