Supreme Court Disbars Sheldon Silver Over Conviction

Law360, New York (October 17, 2016, 12:37 PM EDT) -- Former New York State Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver can no longer appear before the U.S. Supreme Court following a Monday order finalizing his disbarment over the corruption conviction he hopes to overturn using a recent high court ruling.

The high court automatically disbars attorneys who have lost their standing to practice in lower courts. Silver was disbarred in New York state court in March following his conviction on honest services fraud, extortion and money laundering charges at a November 2015 trial.
