APL Settles For $26.3M In War Overcharging Suit

Law360, New York (February 17, 2009, 12:00 AM EST) -- Shipping company APL Ltd. will pay $26.3 million to resolve claims that it intentionally overcharged and double-billed the U.S. government to transport war supplies to U.S. troops in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The U.S. Department of Justice said Friday that the Oakland, Calif.-based company had agreed to settle a 2004 lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California brought by an APL employee who alleged the company gouged the military through its contracts to ship thousands of containers.
